Seller's Permit Cost in Every State

As a boutique owner, you will likely need to purchase wholesale. If you have already been looking at wholesale sites, you may notice you will need to obtain a seller's permit and show proof to the company to even view prices.
A seller's permit allows you to collect the taxes owed to the state’s Department of Revenue for the sale of goods and services. Most states require you to collect sales tax when selling products or services. This amount needs to then be paid to the Department of Revenue whether you sell in person or online.
*In your state, a seller's permit could possibly be referred to as a sales tax permit, sales tax license, sales and use tax number, or sales tax registration
Depending on the state you live in, one of the following will apply:
- it may not be required for a business to get a seller's permit (normally because the state does not have sales tax)
- it is required to get a seller's permit, but it's FREE
- it is required to get a seller's permit and can cost anywhere from $10-$100
Most states allow you to file your application for a seller's permit (or other sales tax registration) online, while others require you to go to your city's clerk county building to obtain. Simply search Google for "how to get a seller's permit in "state".
